Leadership Development and Discipleship
Leadership development is done in a “discipleship environment.” Weekly meetings and many one-on-one meetings help men with the different struggles and issues they face as they try to live godly lives in an animistic society. Courses from John Maxwell’s book, "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership," portions of which Ted has translated into Swahili, have been taught. Many of the men have gone on to higher education in carpentry training and teaching, mechanics, horticulture, business, and basic agriculture. Living and working together with Ted and Kim in an environment of mutual encouragement, these men are the backbone of the work in the Valley. They are running many of the current projects.
Ted, Kim and their children have changed a good deal in how they view life since working with these men and their families. We thank God for them. Discipleship work is never one-sided!

Pastor Oscar Nyami
Ted's close friend, shared the initial vision for the Rukwa Valley. Truly spearheading the spiritual work a year prior to Ted's arrival, Oscar went through much turmoil and difficulty at the hands of local people as he patiently fulfilled his duty as pastor, becoming the first evangelical witness in the area.
