Health Care - Medical and Dental Clinics

Fly-in clinics to the Kapenta airstrip help meet the physical needs of the people. An eye doctor from a church in Pennsylvania, along with his staff, made two week-long visits to the area, fitting hundreds of people with eyeglasses for the first time.

The Wednesday dental extraction clinic brings lines of people to the Rabenold home in anticipation of having Ted pull the tooth that's giving them lots of pain. Each "patient" is prayed over and given a Gospel tract, toothpaste and a toothbrush. Since 2002, over 10,000 teeth have been extracted.

The Rabenolds provide rabies vaccine to people infected by rabid animals in this remote area devoid of access to this type of vaccine. More than 50 people a year come for this help.

Kim Rabenold, blessed with a large dose of the "gift of mercy," treats many cases of human bites, burns and cuts. Kim also teaches nutrition and health/hygiene to a

27 acres was obtained across the river on land connected to the Kapenta Development Center. Directly after acquiring this new property 100,000 bricks were made for the construction that was to follow. In 2009-2010 Ted built a 17 room Health center in Kapenta village on this new property. This is a private, church-run health center. Dr. Mark Guilzon and his family from USA have come to Rukwa Valley and will be administering at this new health center. Mark designed this new building containing 17 rooms and is currently working on the registration process. The availability of this health center in the Valley will be a life-long dream of all the people in this area who have been isolated from good health care. Pastor Oscar Nyami is working together with Mark to begin a chaplaincy program to address the spiritual needs of the people coming for treatment.

Building materials include hand-made bricks made locally before the annual rains arrived. Clay is formed brick by brick, set in rows to sun dry, then fired for several days. Most of the materials for these homes (boards, roof thatch, bricks and stones) are produced or acquired locally in the Rukwa Valley. Cement, roof tin, and finishing products are all transported by truck from outside the Valley.
